Laser therapy for a variety of skin conditions such as acne, pigmentation, rosacea, vascular lesions and more is fast becoming the go-to treatment offering long-lasting and reliable results. Laser therapy is also being used to permanently remove unwanted hair.
So if you are thinking about asking your Skin Technician for laser therapy, read this article first so you get yourself completely clued up.
What Is Laser Therapy?
Laser therapy uses focused light to treat the affected area. However, light from a laser (light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation) is tuned to specific wavelengths allowing for very precise treatments with reduced damage to surrounding skin. For decades lasers have been used to successfully treat a wide variety of conditions from tumors, skin inflammations, acute pain and more.
What Is Aesthetic Laser Therapy?
Aesthetic laser therapy is now widely adopted in dermatology and aesthetic skin treatment clinics around the world. It is hailed as one of the best scientific breakthroughs in this area of medical research and as such, the technology today is so accurate and so precise that the treatments are virtually pain-free, very safe and offer long-lasting results.
How Safe Is It?
As with every popular high street treatment, there are good clinics and bad clinics. There is also good technology and bad technology. At Bem Estar we work very closely together with Alma Lasers. Does Laser Therapy Work On Darker Skin Tones?
Laser therapy was previously a treatment recommended for lighter skin tones only. At Bem Estar, we are skin technicians of all color so we are delighted to see that advances in technology have resulted in a much broader use of Laser Therapy. From skin redness to unwanted marks to hair removal or simply firmer, smoother skin; laser therapy is now safe and effective on all skin tones. Ask your Technician for a skin analysis before starting treatment so you make sure the right lasers are used for your type of skin.
What Are the Side Effects Of Laser Therapy?
Depending on the severity of the skin condition being treated, the type of laser being used, your skin type and its healing abilities will depend on whether or not you experience any side effects. For hair removal using laser therapy there are no side effects. Some people who are being treated for skin conditions like rosacea, pigmentation, couperose etc. might experience some slight swelling in the treated area which usually goes after an hour or two. Some people also notice small scabs on the surface of their skin after a couple of days, this is a sign the skin is healing itself and is perfectly normal. However, others experience no side effects at all. Ask your Technician for a skin analysis before starting treatment so you also understand what, if any, side effects you may notice.
How Long Will Results Last?
Individual results depend on the severity of the initial concerns being treated. Most people who opt for this type of therapy experience results that last for several years once they are finished with their treatment sessions. The number and frequency of treatments is something you need to discuss with your Technician during your skin analysis before starting treatment.
